English buttercups the Chinese way – Wileman 1893

In the year 1893, Wileman hired a new artistic director and this resulted in a huge output of new designs (have you noticed? Many of the items I feature are from that year). This teacup trio is in the beautiful Empire shape with a very interesting design. It looks like the style is Chinese like the Chinese export teaware of a century earlier, but if you looks well you can see that the flowers used are very humble English buttercups! These are little flowers you find by the roadside this time of year – I went for a hike last weekend and saw thousands of them showing their little yellow faces in the grass. This pattern is rare – I had never seen it before so I was excited to get one for the shop. You can find the listing here in my Antiques shop.
