Henry Daniel’s roses – coffeecup from 1822

When I purchased this cup it was not clear who made it: Spode or H&R Daniel? So both the seller and I researched it and we found out it was Daniel. It must have been one of the first items he made in his newly opened factory in 1822 and he used a Spode model but put his own decoration on it – although that is still in a very Spodian style. Henry Daniel had been in charge of Spode’s decorations department for decades so it took a little time to get his own designs going. I love this cup not only for its history – I just imagine how Daniel must have felt when his first cups left his very own factory – but of course because it is so utterly adorable! You can find the listing here in my Antiques shop.
