Two cups sharing a saucer – Coalport 1815

fullsizeoutput_1d3a

In the Georgian period, people would buy a teacup and a coffeecup sharing one saucer. You’ll never drink tea and coffee at the same time, so why invest in an extra saucer? Makes perfect sense! This wonderful set was made by Coalport in about 1815. It is of the ‘London” shape and has the most amazingly bright oriental flowers in a Japanese inspired design. You can find the listing here in my Antiques shop.
